Unemployment Benefits for Independent Contractors
IF YOU HAVE ALREADY FILED A CLAIM:
Independent Contractors that have filed for unemployment insurance benefits but were denied will automatically be placed on another list to receive $600 weekly. To receive this benefit it is required that you checked a box on the application that stated “unemployed due to COVID-19.” If you were denied benefits and did not check the box, you should not file another claim, but instead, call 866-783-5567 to amend your application.
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET FILED A CLAIM:
If you have not yet filed a claim, please visit the Louisiana Works website by clicking here to complete your application. Due to the increased number of claimants, officials say the best time to file an unemployment claim is between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Louisiana Works does not allow direct linking to the application page – please follow the below instructions to access the application.
Please note that to promptly receive benefits you will be required to:
- Identify as having worked as a constractor
- When prompted, check the box for your reason for fiiling as “Unemployed due to COVID-19.”
